What?

The Red Flag Campaign is a campus-based campaign designed to raise awareness and educate people about being active bystanders. It encourages people to SAY SOMETHING if they see a "Red Flag" on campus. "Red Flags" include sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence and stalking.

Appalachian State University educates, and trains our Mountaineer community to be Active Bystanders. We take part in campus-wide acknowledgement and awareness of Red Flags through information exchanges, educational and awareness programs, and trainings.

Why?

College-aged females experience the highest per capita rates of sexual violence and dating abuse- at a rate almost triple the national average. 12% of completed rapes, 35% of attempted rapes, and 22% of threatened rapes occur on a date. 32% of college students report having been in a violent relationship.

Sexual violence and dating abuse are prevelant on college campuses, and absolutely preventable. People can be educated and motivated to intervene when they see a Red Flag and stop perpetration before it happens- and that's just what Appalachian State University's Red Flag Campaign is all about.

How?

The Red Flag Campaign is comprised of approximately 15-20 Red Flag Educators who are responsible for training  and educating their peers on interpersonal, dating and sexual violence. The Campaign focuses on social-marketing, programs to raise awarness, and a series of trainings.
